Super Eagles and Trabzonspor midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi would not dwell too much on the inability of the national team to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Gabon in 2017.
Onazi rather says he has put that disappointment behind him as he feels the future is bright for the Eagles.
“It’s sad that we won’t be at the AFCON. We have been saying that. It is not something we will like to talk about because Nigeria is one of the biggest countries in Africa so we understand it is sad but there is always time to recover and rebuild.
“We have a new manager now and we believe we are on the path of rebuilding and preparing for the World Cup Qualifiers which is what we have ahead of us now,” Onazi said.
The battling midfielder added that the fact Nigeria will not be at the AFCON will take nothing away from the game against Tanzania.
“Saturday’s game is must win for us even though there is nothing at stake, but we must prove to the fans that we are back and better.
“This is a new coach and we just want to give the impression that better things can happen in Nigeria and in our football.”
According to Onazi, the players are all trying to work with Rohr.
“As you see we are just starting and he just came in and we are still trying to understand ourselves and work with him too.
“He’s a new coach and we are still trying to work together and are in the process of knowing ourselves,” Onazi told Naijafootball247.com.
