Imama Amapakabor is still the assistant coach of the Super Eagles against speculations in the media.
The report broke out on Tuesday night that Gernot Rohr had sacked Amapakabor from the team and the Rangers manager returned to his side to face MFM in the league later today (Wednesday).
However, Imama Amapakabor told Naijafootball247.com that he was not aware he had been sacked from the team.
“The news is strange to me because I spoke with Gernot Rohr about leaving to attend to my team’s game against MFM and he was very excited at the fact that my team had a chance to win the league.
“He wished me good luck and asked when I will return and I told him on Thursday. So this issue of him sacking me is completely strange and I will not take it seriously but just focus on my game against MFM,” Amapakabo told Naijafootball247.com.
According to the story on Rohr pushes out coach Imama
But a top source at the Super Eagles told Naijafootball247.com that there was hardly any truth in the story.
“Good morning my bro. There is no truth in the story. He (Rohr) has not sacked anyone from the team.
“Imama sought his permission to travel to Enugu to handle his team today and he will be back with us tomorrow and this was granted,” the source said.
Aside that little bit of distraction, the Super Eagles will take on home side, Akwa United at 5pm on Wednesday in a practice match.
