Super Eagles and Olympiakos striker, Brown Ideye has been commended by the Nigerian Sports Writers body for his latest strides grassroots football development.
The Brown Ideye Challenge, a football tournament amongst youth teams in and around Port Harcourt, Rivers state has been going on for one week and the Rivers State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN says he has done well.
The body, in a statement made available to Naijafootball247.com and signed by the chairman, Sopriala Bobmanuel hailed Ideye for his sponsorship of a football tournament in the state tagged "Brown Ideye Challenge."
“Asides engaging youths meaningfully, it will serve as a sure way of discovering talents for the state,” Sopriala Bobmanuel said.
SWAN called on other professionals from the country, who made it to the top via the grassroots to emulate the gesture of Ideye by ploughing back some of their earnings to the development of sports in their states.
The association also pledged to give organisers of the tournament its support and wished them a successful competition.
