Mcw Jeff Soccer Academy made up for their opening game loss to Police Machine in Group D, with a 5:0 hammering of Benedi United on Tuesday at the Brown Ideye Challenge in Port Harcourt.
Mcw Jef had lost their first game of the group by three goals to nothing against Police Machine in a game which shocked pundits who had expected an evenly contested affair.
In a bid to redeem their image, a blistering start from Mcw Jeff saw Muri Saka netting the first of his goals of the day in the 8th minute.
The first half ended with just the lone goal but with Benedi capitulating towards the closing stages of the second half, Saka scored an additional two goals as his side netted four goals in 9 minutes to embarrass Benedi 5:0.
Coach Ndubuisi Ihejirika of Mcw Jeff informed the media that he had gone home after the loss on the opening day and done his homework which had thus translated into a heavy victory against Benedi United.
If you could remember the last time we lost against Police Machine I promised we were going home for more home-work and if you really watched, we were really optimistic to achieve our aims today. That is the reason we got this victory today. Losing to police does not mean we are not good enough. With this victory we would move ahead.
Enoh Okon of Benedi United revealed in a post-match interview that injuries and the absence of some suspended players due to an accumulation of cards was chiefly responsible for his side’s inability to play well on the day.
I think our problem started with the cards we picked up in our last match. Our chief midfielder and our left full back were not here. We also had some injuries and you know the limited number of players we were allowed to register for the tournament is twenty. Also in the game proper we failed to relax and the boys panicked and I don’t know why.
The group’s other game saw Police Machine beat Port Harcourt City Academy 2:1.
Wednesday will see Rumuowha play against Gold Kings by 2pm while the game involving Awoba vs Citadel follows immediately by 4pm.
