Brown Ideye Challenge: Awoba Stars qualify for quarter finals

Awoba Stars became the first team to confirm qualification for the quarterfinal stages of the Brown Ideye Challenge following a hard fought 2:1 win over Citadel FC in Group A.

Ifeanyi Nnadi gave Citadel a 34th minute lead but Livingstone Thomas levelled matters for Awoba Stars just before the half time break.

Man of the match, Thousand Owiboye scored in the 60th minute and his goal turned out to be the winner, ensuring Awoba Stars made it three wins in three so far in the competition.

Awoba striker, Thousand Owiboye spoke to the media after the game.

“It was a very wonderful game. Although the game was tough in the first half but after the first half we had instruction so we did things according to the instructions and thank God we have the day. I was outstanding because i followed instruction and it worked out for me. I give God the glory for giving us this victory and for myself God has used me to give us victory today,” Thousand said.

Citadel (Osagie Francis): When I looked at the first half I saw it that the pressure is on us because we are playing 4-3-3 formation so I had to ask the three attackers to come down completely and come and look for the ball and to wait for the midfielders. Yes that was how we played finally and we got the result. In every match when you see as things are going then you should be able to know what to do as an experienced coach and that is exactly what I did to get the day.

Henry Moses (Citadel FC): I totally won’t say my boys didn’t play well. To a large extent I was not happy with the officiating in tis game, but being that it is the game of football we’ll lick our wounds go back to the drawing board and see how we can come up with a good performance in our next game.GROUP A
