Ezeji to insure Nigerian League players

Retired veteran of the Nigeria Professional Football League, Victor Ezeji may have turned to insurance sales as his next career move.

Ezeji told Naijafootball247.com that he has joined an Insurance firm with a target to reach out to players in the league.

“It’s called the Players Health Insurance Scheme and I have spoken to players across the country.

“I took it to the players themselves because I know what they go through while playing,” Ezeji said.

“The package is quite simple. In a case of injury they get N500, 000.00 (Five hundred thousand naira, while permanent disability or death, the player will get N10, 000,000.00 (ten million naira),” Ezeji told Naijafootball247.com.

“This is what I do now. But it does not mean I cannot coach if I want to or go into radio or television punditry.”

Fetish football clubs

Ezeji revealed to Naijafootball247.com some fetish situations he encountered while playing for various Nigerian clubs.

“When I played in my first CAF Champions League, some one from the club gave us cubes of sugar to put in our boots, saying it will help us score goals. Of course I refused because I never believed in such things.”

He relieved memories of some other fetish situations he encountered as a footballer.

“Sometimes they tell us to go into the stadium backwards. I’ve also been in a situation where the club officials took our jerseys from us before the game and said they’ll be brought to us at the stadium dressing room.

“I kicked against it saying that was not the practice and I would not play the game if my jersey was not handed over to me.

“I was accused of trying to work against the club, but I thank God we won that game 1-0 and I scored the goal,” the legend said.

Victor Ezeji recently called it quits with professional football after 20 seasons at Sharks, Eagle Cement, Enyimba, Dolphins and Sunshine Stars.

He won one league title each, with Enyimba and Dolphins; 3 FA Cup trophies with Dolphins and the CAF Champions League with Enyimba.

He also won the West African Football Union, WAFU Cup with Sharks.
