Aigbogun, Effiong emerge LBA July winners

Ndifreke Effiong
Paul Aigbogun of Warri Wolves and Ndifreke Effiong of Abia Warriors
have been named the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) Manager and Player
for the month of July.

The two men emerged top performers in the Glo Premier League for the
month under review ahead of the other actors in the Nigerian top
flight.

Aigbogun had to fend off impressive performances from Kadiri Ikhana of
Enyimba and Ladan Bosso of Abia Warriors for the manager's award for
the month of July.

After reviewing the five rounds of games (between match days 15 and
19) for July, Aigbogun guided Wolves to four wins including one away
but saw his team suffer one loss, being a 0-2 loss at Bayelsa United
on match day 16.

Though Ikhana led Enyimba to two away wins in July at Kwara United and
Enugu Rangers as well as a 2-2 draw in the Abia Derby against city
rivals, Abia Warriors in the mix of their five games saw them amass 10
points, two less than Aigbogun's team.

Bosso also could only guide his men to garner 10 points and thereby
fell short of beating his Warri Wolves counterpart, Aigbogun, to the
manager's award for July. Heartland gaffer, Bethel Orji, was in the
running for the same category until disciplinary issues against Kano
Pillars, where he was sent off for dissent, knocked him out of the top
performers.

Effiong, in the player's category, had to contend with a long list of
impressive performers for the month of July. But the LBA whittled down
the list to three including Enyimba striker, Christian Obiozor and
Akwa United's Nnamso Edo.

The Abia Warriors attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger,
was a central figure in his club's good run in July and scored five
goals in five matches for the month under review including one goal on
the road.

Obiozor and Edo came close with their contributions for their teams'
display as they scored four and three goals respectively.

Aigbogun and Effiong are the fifth set of winners of the LBA this
season and they will be presented their awards later in August.
