Dolphins welcome back Ivorian Import, Dosso

Dolphins Football club has been buoyed to launch a challenge to reclaim the Glo Premier League title by the return of their former player, Alhassane Dosso of Ivorian descent. Dosso was recommended by Dolphins’ scouts in 2005 after the club lost out to ASEC Mimosas in the 3rd round of the CAF Champions League.

Then playing for Isia Wazi of Abidjan and able to speak no English, Dosso moved over to Port Harcourt and immediately adapted to the game in Port Harcourt. Comfortable as a full back but naturally a box to box midfielder, Dosso is strong, tireless, marks well, passes well and packs bullets in both feet. His skills in midfield helped the club to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2005 where they lost 3-1 to FAR Rabat aggregate in the final. In 2006, he won the FA Cup with Dolphins and retained it in 2007.

He will be remembered for his goal from 35 yards in Calabar against Hawks of Gambia that ensured Dolphins made it to the 2nd round of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2007. Dolphins had drawn 0-0 in Banjul and with just some seconds to the end with scores at 1-1 in added time, he tried a shot from distance that beat the keeper and ensured the club made it through.

He stayed with Dolphins for one more season after the club was relegated and then crossed over to city neighbours, Sharks. “I have tried. I need to play at the top. That is why I left my country. I love Dolphins so much but I cannot continue to play in the lower division so I have to move to Shark,” Dosso told reporters at the time.

After a one season stint with Sharks he got a contract in Norway with Lillestrom where he managed just twelve games in 2009/10 football season. He moved to Strommen on loan in 2010 and played twenty four games in his one year with them before moving to Kongsvinger where he had forty eight games in three seasons.

Dosso said of his return to the Garden City side, “I decided to return to Dolphins where I started my career outside Ivory Coast.
“I believe I still have something to offer to them and I will give my best. I remember good times I had with this club like getting to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2005 and winning the FA Cup twice with the team in 2006 and 2007. “I am sure if we work together like we did back in those days, we can return this club to winning ways”.

Dosso’s return to Dolphins will certainly strengthen the side’s midfield that already has Emeka Atuloma and other new boys, Victor Alegbe from Wikki Tourists and Adamu Tijani from Kaduna United. Dosso covers every blade of glass on the pitch, does not hesitate to get stuck in or dive into tackles and will shoot from distance as soon as the space is available. If Dosso gets into the groove early this season, then Dolphins fans will be singing and dancing after every game they play because his contributions to games are always top notch.
