Ezeji wants support for CHAN Eagles

Ejike Uzoenyi
Nigerian League player of the decade, Victor Ezeji says Nigerians should stop complaining about the CHAN team and support them.
Nigerians worldwide have via radio shows and social media greatly criticized the team since their opening day 2-1 loss to Mali at the Championship For African Nations.

Even though the team w0n their next three games to move to the semi finals, the criticisms have not gone down a notch.

Ezeji, who has eight caps and three goals for the Eagles told Naijafootball247.com that the team may not seem the best in the eyes of Nigerians but Keshi, the coach of the side has picked them and they must be supported.

“I do not know why Nigerians continue to do this thing. We have a habit of criticizing Nigerians teams whether it is football, athletics, basketball or whatever.

“I have not said a bad team should not be criticized but here we do it like we are actually hoping for the tea, to lose so we can say, ‘I told you so’ but that is all wrong,” Ezeji said.

“Whether we like the team or not, we must realize that the team has a coach and the coach has picked these players who are in a competition and reached the semifinals so why are we still killing ourselves?

“I will advise Nigerians to get behind the team. The negative atmosphere coming from the country will go a long way to affect them and it is not good for sportspeople,” the veteran player said

"They may not win the Cup but at least have a 3rd place match to be part of," Ezeji said

The CHAN Eagles lost to arch-rivals, Ghana in the semifinal on Wednesday via penalty shootouts after full and extra time ended 0-0.

Nigeria lost 3-1 via penalty shootouts.
