Stephen Keshi reveals World Cup target

Nigeria's Manager, Stephen Keshi
Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi has eventually set a target for himself ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next year.

There have been speculations as regards what the target of the team will be going to the World Cup but Keshi told naijafootball247.com that his target is to better what Nigeria has done at previous World Cups.

“My ambition for the World Cup in 2014 is first of all to assemble a very strong side for Nigeria.

“Then I want to go beyond whatever stage we have reached before. I think that would be great,” Keshi said.

Nigeria’s best performance at the World Cup has been 2nd round placings at the 1994 and 1998 editions so Keshi will apparently be happy with a quarterfinal appearance at the 2014 edition in brazil.

The gaffer told naijafootball247 that he has a big challenge on his hands which he must sort out long before the World Cup.

“My biggest challenge will probably be to selct the players. Nigeria is blessed with lots of players and the challenge will be to get the right ones to be at the World Cup,” Keshi said.

“But I know we will sort it out,” he enthused.

Selection of 23 players for the World Cup will certainly be a cause of headaches for Keshi as Nigerians are already clamouring for the recall of the likes of Joseph Yobo, Osaze Odemwingie, Ike and Kalu Uche as well as Victor Anichebe.

There have also been calls for defender Kenneth Otigba to get his chance at being a Nigerian international.
