Kenya seek rare win against Nigeria

Kenya will be seeking a very rare win in Calabar on Saturday when they face African champions, the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifying match.

Harambee Stars have never beaten their opponents and the fact itself outlines the assignment they will be tasked to accomplish this weekend.

With the guidance of a new coach, Adel Amrouche who will be on the touchline on his first match, the battle lines have been drawn and he insists they won't be afraid of the hosts.

"I respect Nigeria but as much as they are at home, we also want a win. We didn't come here for a holiday."

The team will miss out on the services of McDonald Mariga who is recovering from an injury, but have as we'll adopted to play without him since he hasn't donned the national colors for over an year.

Considering the battle lines were drawn as early as the arrival of Harambee Stars courtesy of the FKF's poor planning, the nature of the match is worth the salt riding on it because it will be a make or break for Kenya.

The East African side has never qualified for World Cup and with a single point at the bottom of group F, a chance to level on points is what hasn't been ruled out by Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama (In pic) : "Football is about 90 minutes, yes they are champions but we also have a match to play and we'll play to win."

Stars managed to win 3-0 in Tunis against Libya in February as part of their build up to this fixture with new crop of players like David Gateri busking in the glory of their International debut.

However, the clash is set to relish the senior debut of Dennis Oliech and Wanyama made their senior debut against Nigeria in 2002 and 2007 respectively, something which Oliech values.

"It is always special playing against Nigeria. I remember a lot when this match is played. I learn a lot from it."

The last time Kenya played Nigeria was in 2011 in a friendly match they lost 3-0 in Abuja.
