FIFA clearance delays Sidney Sam’s invitation

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Sidney Sam is yet to get a call up to play for Nigeria because his clearance has not been sent by FIFA.

Nigeria had signified their interest to have Sidney Sam on its books some time last year and Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi confirmed to naijafootball247.com that it won’t be long before it happens.

“The good thing is that he wants to play for Nigeria,” Keshi said.

“The last time I spoke with him he was willing to play but you know there is a lot of paper work involved.

“The Secretariat have done their part and now we just have to wait for the FIFA letter that makes him eligible to play for us,” Keshi said.

“As soon as we get that letter he will be called up. Like I said, the good thing is that he wants to play for us.”

Sam, who can also play as a striker started his football career with TuS Mettenhof, before joining Kilia Kiel.

In 2004 he moved to Hamburger SV youth system, and in 2006, he was promoted to the second team.

In December of 2007 he made his Bundesliga debut against VfB Stuttgart when he came on for David Jarolím.

Born on January 31, 1988 he has played for Germany at U19, U20 and U21 categories.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2010 he has played 58 times and scored 16 goals.
