Mikel Obi ready for AFCON challenge

Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi has assured Nigerians that he is fit and ready for the challenge of playing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Just before Sunday morning training session, Mikel said he is okay.

Reacting to speculations making the rounds that he was not listed for Saturday’s FA Cup game against Southampton due to injury, Mikel said

“I had a knock two weeks ago and was told to rest for some time but now I am fit and I actually started training two days ago with the Chelsea first team.

“So there is no fear about any injury. I’m ready for the Nations Cup.”

Mikel would be a boost to the team as he has only played for the team once since Stephen Keshi started as coach of the Super Eagles, a little more than one year ago.

In his stead, the coach went with Obiora Nwankwo and Gabriel Rueben.
