Siasia sees bright AFCON for Eagles

Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia says he believes the Nigerian National team will not disappoint Nigerians in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.

Speaking just after Nigeria qualified for the AFCON, Siasia said the problems the team has now are normal and will be sorted out as they get to play more games together.

“First Nigerians are complaining that the team did not play well against Liberia but we must understand that in football you rise up to the occasion depending on the kind of opposition you are facing.

“If we faced a stronger opposition it would have been better than what we saw that day,” Siasia said.

“Then it is good for Nigerians to understand that the players have not been together as often as they would have wanted and these things matter too but hopefully we would have about a month before the Championship next year and I’m sure we will play better football then and have a great tournament because we actually have a good team.”

Nigeria beat Liberia 6-1 in Calabar on Saturday to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations on 8-3 aggregate though there were complaints that the team did not play very good football.

Samson Siasia was coach of the Super Eagles until he failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations last year against Guinea.

He was sacked and replaced with Stephen Keshi.
