League rules set for review

Following the near fiasco that ended the Nigeria Premier League 2011/12 season, the League has decided to review the rules and regulations ahead of the new football season that might start in October.

In a memo to all club Chairmen/General Managers signed by the Competition Officer, Gbenga Afolabi on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NPL, Tunji Babalola, the Rules and Regulations Committee requested the Premier League clubs to forward their suggestions to the committee on or before Friday, September 14, 2012 for consideration and necessary incorporation into the Rules and Regulations towards a hitch free 2012/2013 season.

The memo continued that the NPL have commenced preparations for the new season after the successful conclusion of the previous one on Friday, September 7, 2012

There was controversy in the third quarter of the last football season when Ocean Boys failed to honour two consecutive games falling fouling of the rules of the league that would have ensured their immediate expulsion from the league and results of all their games cancelled.

The NPL delayed on invoking the rules until three individuals, Colin Udoh, Toyin Ibitoye and Bode Oguntuyi threatened court action.

In all Ocean Boys failed to honour four league matches citing non-existent funds to continue playing the league.
