Obuh unrepentant over fresh invitations

By Bakare Idowu

Nigeria’s U20 national team head coach, John Obuh says there is nothing wrong with fresh invitations handed out to certain players to join up with his team last week.

Obuh called up, Abduljeleel Ajagun, Chidi Osuchukwu and Abubarkar Umar, all of Dolphins as well as Bright Ejike from Sharks raising an outcry in the Nigerian media.

Ajagun, Osuchukwu and Ejike were part of his team for the last World Cup two years ago though Osuchukwu was dropped just before the World Cup.

John Obuh told naijafootball247.com that FIFA gave them permission to use players born after January 1, 1993.

“These players are not new to national team football. We all know their ages and we have not broken an law so I wonder why you are complaining about their invitation,” Obuh said.

“They are Nigerians who fall under the age range and there is nothing wrong if I decide to use for the Africa Championships.”

“Why should I do away with them just because they played in the last World Cup? Are they not within the age bracket?”

The Flying Eagles prepare for the Africa Youth Championships and are in camp in Ilorin.

Two years ago, two players Mackson Ojobo and Gomo Onduku were dropped on the eve of the opening match when news of their ages was posted on a website, www.westafricanfootball.com
