Keshi’s foreign based army arrive from Saturday

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi says his foreign based players will begin to arrive in camp on Saturday as they step up preparations for the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia next month.

“The players should be here from Saturday because our game comes up about a week later on synthetic turf and we need players who are ready to fight for every ball and work their socks off,” Keshi said.

He explained why he invited only eleven foreign based players saying he did that to save the Nigerian league.

“Why should I have invited, say, twenty five foreign based players when we have lots of good players in the Nigerian League?

“We could as well scrap our league if we have to do that,” Keshi said.

“It’s not done anywhere in the world that you have a national league and you do not have any player from your league in the national team and that’s what I’m about. Now you know me. I’m not going to do that.”

On Friday, Keshi listed eleven foreign based players as part of the team that will battle Liberia in the first leg of the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month.

Joseph Yobo, Emmanuel Emenike, Vincent Enyeama, Efe Ambrose and
Elderson Echiejile were named.

Others are Obiora Nwankwo, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and Ikechukwu Uche.

Keshi also named Nosa Igiebor, and Brown Ideye.
