Keshi holds on to Heartland, Pillars players

National team coach, Stephen Keshi says he will not release players of Kano Pillars and Heartland to play the Federation Cup semifinals.

Keshi, though agreeing that he understands their plight insists the national team assignment is more important than club calls and the clubs must look toward other players to prosecute the games.

“I understand their position, really I do. But these clubs registered thirty players so why can’t they play if three or four are not there?

“If I am a coach I won’t accept it that I can’t pick a team because three are absent. Why should I waste money registering so many?

“What if these players were injured? Wouldn’t they play? Like I said, I understand their position but this is the national team and it is more important,” Keshi said.

The Nigeria Football Federation rules and regulations say if this situation arises, the national team either releases the players to their clubs to prosecute the game or the game is postponed until after the national team assignment.

The NFF is yet to decide on this case on Wednesday.
