Utaka happy with Keshi’s mix

John Utaka has told naijafootball247.com that he is happy with the blend of home grown and foreign based players in the Super Eagles.

After Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, the former coach, Samson Siasia was sacked and Keshi hired in his place.

Stephen Keshi’s first task was to identify players from the Nigerian League and use them in friendly matches before blooding seven of them in last weekend’s FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil qualifying match against Namibia.

John Utaka was one of the few foreign based players in that team and he says he is happy with the blend and that the Keshi experiment is working.

“There are good players around and its working well because we are all professional footballers whether we play our football in Europe or Nigeria and I like the relationship between the players and the coaches.

“I must say we enjoy our training and the most important thing is the player-coach relationship which is good and so we are happy,” Utaka said.

John Utaka himself has been out of the national team for more than two years but returned after his sparkling performances for Montpellier including two goals on the last day of the campaign helped them win the French League.
