Nigeria’s Cup consumes Shooting Stars and Wikki Tourists

Two Premier League sides, Shooting Stars Sports Club and Wikki Tourists on Tuesday became the first high profile victims of Nigeria’s Federation Cup when they fell to lowly sides.

The Federation Cup from its days as Governor’s Cup through its time as the FA Cup has been known to be no respecter of clubs and it is always expected that big name clubs will fall early.

On Tuesday, Premier League side, Shooting Stars despite scoring first against Lagos based non-League side, Fame Academy, managed to lose 2-1 to the part timers.

Shooting Stars are 9th on the Premier League log.

In Minna, Wikki Tourists who are struggling in the Premier League, lost to Amatuer Division One side, Prime by 2-0.

In Katsina Ala, Akwa United were close to being upset by Amatuer Division 2 side, Zabgai of Bauchi as they game ended goaless at full time but Akwa eventually won 4-2 via penalties.
After the game, Zabgai’s coach, Bala Mohammed told that he was happy with his players for holding a Premier League side that long.

“It is not as painful as it could have been. We are in the amateur division 2 league and we were able to hold a Premier League side to a goaless game.

“It is something my boys can take back to the league with confidence that they can play,” he said.

“Our heads are not down. We are proud of ourselves. Being 2nd on the table we believe that we can return to our league and gain promotion to the Amatuer Division One.”

Akwa United’s coach, Solomon Ogbeide said he was relieved eventually but people should know it’s the Cup and it comes with it’s own surprises.

“These small teams do not respect us again. I was tensed up but I did not panic. I just believed that when it got to penalties we would win because they are really kids.

“We have survived this one and other clubs must learn from this that in the Cup anything can happen.”

  1. Mr. Ikwereman, u're doin well with the contnet in ur blog. Howeva add a bit more media to it...quality and current pictures as well as videos (try and do it). i think i'll visit here often. this is my 1st time.

I think Nigeria shudnt b afraid 2 play attackin futbol. Coach KEshi shud use Rabiu Ibrahim (He's a star on his own-luk at some of his current videos on youtube (and he models himself around David Silva)) as a creativ mid, Ramon azeez (kinda lyk XAVI) as the overlap as well as help to the holding midfielder which would fit gabriel reuben.
We have no excuse to fail in football.
