What became of Odeh Ogar’s football career?

Former Enyimba captain, Odeh Ogar no longer plays football and this is because of an accident he had whilst on his way to start a professional career in Cyprus.

Ogar, after winning the League and Cup double with Enyimba 2005 got a contract to play in Cyprus and he told naijafootball247.com how it happened when he went to Lagos to procure a visa.

“I had an offer from Cyprus in 2007 and travelled to Lagos to secure my visa. After the interview I was successful and they asked me to return the next day for the visa,” Ogar said.

“Because I wanted to get home early I decided to go on a motor bike and on my way we were hit by a bus which injured my pelvis.”

Ogar also explained how he tried to treat himself and that lack of funds eventually stopped him from going abroad further medical care.

“When I was rushed to a hospital, they took me to the x-ray room and as they were about to start, there was a power outage that stopped the x-ray.

“We asked them to turn on the power generator and they said it was not time yet and we had to wait until night,” Ogar said.

“We went to another hospital and after the x-ray was done and they detected the problem. I sent the x-ray to a footballer friend in Israel who showed it to a doctor and they gave him a bill of $12,000.00 to correct it. I could not afford the money and that was why I stayed back in Nigeria.”

He is currently and assistant coach at Premier League side, Lobi Stars.

“Because of my commitment at Enyimba then, the chairman, Anyansi Agwu was sympathetic and he kept me on the pay roll for the next year until he stopped it.

“I then put a call to my former chairman when I was at Lobi Stars, Dominic Iorfa and he immediately put me in the coaching crew of the club,” Ogar continued.
