Robbers attack NFF board member

Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Security Committee, Effiong Johnson was at the early hours of Wednesday morning attacked by a group of armed men at his residence in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

Recounting the ordeal, Johnson said the robbers who were heavily armed with machetes and guns broke into his apartment through the roof at about 1.30am, carting away his phones, I pad, wrist watch, money and other valuables after beating him mercilessly.

“After jumping over the fence, they (the robbers) came into the house through the roof and landed in my wife’s room. It was difficult penetrating, but there broke through because a machine was used to cut the roof,” Johnson narrated.

“My wife immediately ran to my room with my little daughter but the robbers met us there. I was severely beaten and my phone, I pad, wrist watch, money and other valuables taken away. It was a terrible experience. The police came minutes after the robbers had left,” he added.

With the NFF Executive Committee due to meet on Thursday to decide a venue for Super Eagles and their opponents as the preliminary stage of the 2013 Nations Cup enters its second leg and the 2014 World Cup qualification phase begins, Johnson’s contributions would have been key. But the Akwa Ibom State Football Association Chairman says he will not be available as a result of the incident.

“I can’t make it anymore. I’m not in the right frame of mind. I just left the hospital where I was advised to rest,” he said.
