Heartland target Confederation Cup

Nigeria’s Heartland will not be playing in the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup just as participants but have a desire to win it.

Assistant coach of the side, Bob Acholonu told naijafootball247.com that the current Heartland side is good enough to win on the continent.

“I bet you, this Heartland will go far on the continent if not winning the Cup,” Acholonu told naijafootball247.com.

“The refereeing will be better, and we are very motivated to win too,” He enthused.

Heartland dominated Nigerian football in the late 80s and early 90s then known as Iwuanyanwu Nationale but they have never won on the continent.

They however got to the final of the top clubs competition in Africa twice.

In 1988 they lost to Setif of Algeria in the Cup of Champions Clubs final, 4-1while in 2009 they lost 2-2 on away goal’s rule to TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League final.
