Nigeria’s U17 coaches to work in harmony

National U17 team assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade (In pic)says he is already looking forward to a harmonious working relationship with his colleagues on the Golden Eaglets’ beat.

Ugbade would be making a glorious return to the Golden Eaglets as a coach 26 years after leading the country to win the FIFA‘s cadet competition in China in 1985.

He later rose through the ranks to play for the Super Eagles and was recently announced as second assistant coach of the Golden Eaglets.

“I’m really proud to be back with the Golden Eaglets 26 years after I led Nigeria to win her first major honour in football at the world level,” stated Ugbade, dismissing erroneous beliefs in a section of the media that the new coaching crew are strange bedfellows.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in August appointed Garba Manu to lead a strong cast including former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke (assistant coach 1), former youth international, Emeka Amadi as goalkeepers’ coach and Ugbade and many have opined that they may not be able to work together.

“Contrary to what some people are saying, I think this is one of the best coaching crew to be assembled for the national Under-17 team because there is already a synergy amongst us and this would work effectively for the team,” Ugbade revealed.

“The truth is that we are first and foremost friends and we have had these relationships long ago. For instance, I played together with Manu for El Kanemi Football Club of Maiduguri in the 1990s. Amuneke was also my colleague in the Super Eagles and I also played together with Amadi in the Flying Eagles.

“These are relationships built over the years and we are going to leverage on it to succeed in this assignment. I’m going to work harmoniously with the rest of the crew to fashion out a team Nigerians would be proud of,” he noted.
