Crisis in NPL stalled 1 GAME plans – Obaji

1 GAME founder Philip Obaji says the lengthy battle for the leadership of the NPL board which only recently returned to normalcy was the reason why the anti-violence organization’s programmes could not be implemented in the Nigeria Premier League.

Obaji (In pic) told sports reporters in Calabar on Sunday that several programmes were planned for the league but for the issues in the NPL leadership they could not be forwarded to the body.

“We had several programmes planned out. These programmes were important and would have benefited the league greatly but then the board had too many issues to deal with.

“The leadership was not steady. It was from one court ruling to the other and we felt our programmes would not be adequately implemented under such circumstances, so we had to sit back and watch.

“It was not a question of if these programmes would be used, it was a question of who approves and implements them. Both men involved in the tussle were in love with the vision we had but the heat would not let us act,” he said.

But with the issues over the NPL leadership now seemingly settled following the elections into the disputed positions of Chairman and Chairman of Chairmen of the board, the 1 GAME arrowhead believes it is time to act.

“It does appear these issues have been sorted. If it stays that way, we would be pushing our programmes and hopefully we’ll get our work done on violence in the Nigerian league,” Obaji said.
