Nigeria Mobile Police Officers back 1 GAME

Across the eighteen Local Government Areas of Cross River State, the Nigeria Mobile Police Force has given its wholehearted support to 1 GAME, with tens of uniform men themselves adding their names and showing incredible commitment to this important cause.

The Mobile Police men showed their support for achieving football without violence by pledging to support 1 GAME and promising to take adequate measures on football related violence particularly around viewing centres and in stadia when the organization visited the Mobile Police Force Headquarters, No. 11 Squadron, Calabar to educate officers and men of the regiment on its role in combating violence and negative fanaticism in football and the society. The visit was also aimed at soliciting the support of the Mobile Police Force in the campaign for peace.

In its first ever visit to a security agency, 1 GAME was quick to draw the attention of the Police to incidents concerning football that have claimed lives, destroyed properties and smeared the image of the game.

1 GAME founder Philip Obaji Jr. in his address the mobile police men said: “Today I urge all of you, protectors of our law and society to be vigilant, pay attention to football viewing centers, never overlook argument on the streets concerning football. Those families who today mourn their loved ones as a result of football violence might have regretted your absence from the scene of trouble. Let us not give fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends or well-wishers any cause to ask questions about our role in interventions.

“Nigeria football authorities and fans appreciate your effort in ensuring that there is order in the game. But you will agree with me that there is more to be done. We can still refer to more cases of football related violence in the country and this is clearly an indication that we are not there yet,” he added.

1 GAME has in recent times come up with series of programmes intended to promote its objectives of non-violence and an end to fanaticism in football, calling on the public to sign up to its campaign and support its cause. The campaign has had more than One hundred thousand sign-ups on its website www.play1game.org including endorsements from high profile celebrities, politicians and administrators.
