Nations Cup winner Fuludu, makes 1 GAME pledge

BCC lions of Gboko legend and former Nigeria super eagles mid-field maestro Edema Fuludu has decided to add his voice to the 1 GAME: Football without Violence campaign, saying it was “very good” for football.

The 46 year old former Altay Sport Club of Turkey player told 1 GAME’s Ibitoye Shittu in Warri, Delta State that he had been a victim of football violence and so understands what violence brings to the game.

“1 GAME is what football needs. I have been a victim of football violence and I understand what it brings to the game.

“The incident I would never forget in my life was in 1989 when I was playing for NNPC FC of Warri.

“We were playing against Ilesha Breweries at the Warri Township Stadium, we needed four goals to avoid relegation, as we started the match, I scored the first goal, then the visiting team decided not to play again due to the fact that they were been paid by another team. Angrily, the fans invaded the pitch and beat both teams giving us serious injuries. Unfortunately we relegated,” Fuludu said.

“I am Edema Fuludu and I support 1 GAME,” he added.

Born on 8 May, 1965, Fuludu made his international debut for the super eagles in a Nations Cup qualifier on January 7, 1991 against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou. The match ended 1-1. He was part of the Nigeria team that defeated Zambia to lift the Africa Nations Cup hosted by Tunisia in 1994. He played 15 times for the National team

At club level, Fuludu was among the victorious BCC lions of Gboko team that smashed Tunisia's Club Africaine home and away to claim the defunct Mandela (CAF confederation's cup) in 1990. He also played in Turkey with Altay Sport Club from 1994 to 1997.

He is presently the Director of football at Nigeria premier league club Warri Wolves.

Fuludu is the second member of the victorious 1994 African Nations Cup team to announce his support for the 1 GAME campaign after super eagles coach Samson Siasia.
