NPL names Team of the Week 23

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has released a 12-man team for matchday 23 as its Team of the Week.
Bukola Babes get three spots with coach Festus Allen as well as Abdulrahman Bashir and winger Otu-Bassey Effiom named in the side.
Crown keeper, Michael Uweru makes the team for the first time alongside Ebinipere Denigo of Ocean Boys, John Adada of Juth and Buhari Musa of Kano Pillars.
Warri Wolves’ strong man, Chimezie Mba claimed the right-back just as Obioha MacMarcel of Gombe United is named as a centre-back.
The team is completed with Atanda Sakibu of Sunshine Stars, Kabiru Sanusi of Kwara United and Derrick Amadi (In Pic above) of Dolphins.

HOW THEY MADE THE TEAM

Goalkeeper: Michael Uweru (Crown)
He took the place of Ayobami Ojo and grabbed it with both hands in the game against Kaduna United. Uweru kept the Kaduna attackers at bay to ensure that Crown won by 1 – 0 in Ilaro. He edged Chigozie Agbim of Warri Wolves to this position.

Right-back: Chimezie Mba (Warri Wolves)
As usual, Mba proved to be massive at right-back for Wolves in one of Sunday’s big games against Heartland in Owerri.

Centre-back: Ebinipere Denigo (Ocean Boys)
Denigo makes the team for the first time. Apart from putting up a big display, the centre-back cleared a goal-bound move by Enugu Rangers with a spectacular overhead kick.

Centre-back: Obioha MacMarcel (Gombe United)
The Gombe United man took out everything aimed at his team by Lobi Stars terrestrially and aerially. No wonder the Desert Scorpions left Jalingo with a point.

Left-back: John Adada (Juth)
Adada played from the left side of defence against Niger Tornadoes. His runs down the left flank gave Tornadoes a lot of problems in Jos at the weekend.

Right midfielder: Atanda Sakibu (Sunshine Stars)
Sakibu crossed from Enyimba to Sunshine Stars and has seamlessly fitted into the side. His performance on Sunday against Plateau United was the best in a while. He capped it up with two goals.

Central midfielder: Abdulrahman Bashir (Bukola Babes)
Surprisingly Bashir showed that he is a utility player. Festus Allen opted to use him from the midfield instead of his natural attacking position against 3SC. Bashir excelled and scored from the spot just three minutes into the game.

Left midfielder: Otu-Bassey Effiom (Bukola Babes)
Effiom combined well with Bashir in midfielder. The player put in a star performance to make sure that Bukola Babes humiliate 3SC by 4 – 1.

Attacking midfielder: Buhari Musa (Kano Pillars)
This attacking midfielder has brought life back into Kano Pillars with his vision, dribble and eye for goal. Musa is touted as the next big thing to happen to Pillars after Ahmed Musa.

Forward: Kabiru Sanusi (Kwara United)
He remains the most consistent striker in the league right now. Sanusi scored his 10th goal of the season at the weekend to catch up with Ibrahim Ajani of Sunshine Stars before Wednesday’s game between Sunshine Stars and Bukola Babes.

Forward: Derrick Amadi (Dolphins)
The Dolphins’ marksman was full of energy at the weekend in the Port Harcourt derby against Sharks. He got the winner and showed why he has been the man for the big occasion for Dolphins this term.

Coach: Festus Allen (Bukola Babes)
Allen returns to win the coach of the week after masterminding the thrashing of 3SC by 4 – 1 in Bauchi on Sunday.
