Martins ready to fight relegation with Birmingham

Nigeria and Birmingham striker, Obafemi Martins says the next thing on his mind now is how to help his club win the battle against relegation from the English Premier League.

Martins told naijafootball247.com that there are still a couple of games left in the League and every one of them must work extra hard to ensure they are not relegated.

“We don’t want to get relegated and we know we must work hard,” Martins said.

“We still have about eight games left to play and you must know that the Premiership is difficult at the moment. Most of the clubs in the relegation zone are close in terms of points and we must work really hard. It’s a team effort,” he said.

He also told naijafootball247.com that he will cherish his Carling Cup medal won this year in the final against Arsenal.

“You know since I left Inter Milan I have not won a trophy.

“I played at Newcastle, played at Wolfsburg and then Rubin Kazan and ended with nothing so when I came to Birmingham and won a trophy after a few games, you know I should be excited about it.

“I really needed that trophy and I will cherish it for a long time.”

In the Carling Cup final against Arsenal, Martins came on as a late second half substitute and cashed in on a mix up in the Arsenal defence to tap in the easiest of chances, a goal he later described as the easiest he had scored in his career.
