Siasia wants respect for Super Eagles

Nigeria’s national team coach, Samson Siasia (pictured left) says Nigerians cause division in the national team ranks when some players are called home based while other foreign based.

Though he agreed that the distinction comes as a result of where they play their football, he would prefer if Nigerians simply called them Super Eagles players.

He told he wants Nigerians to respect all national team players by simply calling them Super Eagles players and not home or foreign based.

“I don’t know why we insist on calling them home based. They are all professionals.

I know it’s just a name thing but we should try our best not to call them home based players any more.

“Those who play in Europe do not have two heads. They are one and the same and we should treat them as equals,” Siasia said.

“If we treat them as equals then they will go all out and compete favourably with those that come in from Europe.”

Only two players from the Nigerian League, Chibuzor Okonkwo and Ekigho Ehiosun made the 24 man shortlist of players for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Ethiopia and Siasia says they have a chance to make the starting line up on March 27th if they do the right things.

“They must respond well to training. You know I’ve been with them for some time now. Let them play well and to instructions and we will not just keep them in the team, they will be part of our plans in the starting line up,” Siasia said.

Siasia added that he is trying to build a team of young players but he would not just throw away the older ones if he does not have any replacements for them.
