Rangers dominate Team of the week

Enugu Rangers deservedly got more personnel in this week’s team picked by the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
The Flying Antelopes had two players – Ugwu Uwadiegwu and Brendan Ogbu – and their coach – Alphonsus Dike – in the side following the Enugu-based team’s first win on the road last weekend.
Ocean Boys produced two players in Onyekachi Akakem and Chigozie Christopher, just as Sunshine Stars’ duo of Cletus Itodo and Ibrahim Ajani were named in the team.
Jos University Teaching Hospital (Juth) Football Club’s Fidelis Eze was picked as goalkeeper as Uche Oguchi and Azubuike Egwuekwe complete the backline.
Others in the team are Emmanuel Bivan of Kaduna United and Adekunle Muritala of Kwara United.

Why they made the team
Goalkeeper: Fidelis Eze (Juth FC)
He put up a marvellous performance to keep out Enyimba’s front men in a game pundits had tipped the champions to win. Eze got the nod to feature as this week’s team goalkeeper ahead of a number of keepers after matchday 17.

Right-back: Uche Oguchi (Dolphins)
The Dolphins’ man is putting up five-star performance week in, week out. It is little wonder that he is named in the team this week again after he played a big role in the defeat of giant-killing Bukola Babes.

Centre-back: Onyekachi Akakem (Ocean Boys)
This Ocean Boys’ defender finds himself in the team after his decent performance against Zamfara United. Before last Sunday’s game, Akakem has been one of the shining lights for the 2006 champions in their resurgent this term.

Centre-back: Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves)
It was a difficult game for Warri Wolves at the Warri City Stadium, as Niger Tornadoes played negative and often waited to hit Wolves on the offence. But Egwuekwe was always on cue to cut off Tornadoes from wreaking any havoc.

Left-back: Ugwu Uwadiegwu (Enugu Rangers)
The latest father in the Premier League put a massive performance in the backline of Enugu Rangers against Crown Football Club. Uwadiegwu was one of those that kept Rangers in this shaky game to win their first full points on the road.

Central midfielder: Emmanuel Bivan (Kaduna Utd)
He led by example as captain of Kaduna United with one of the three goals against Gombe United in the northern derby. Bivan has put in consistent display for Kaduna United in the past five games.

Central midfielder: Cletus Itodo (Sunshine Stars)
The former Enyimba midfield enforcer stormed back to scoring ways with a double strike within 23 minutes of the second half of the game against former champions, Kano Pillars. Itodo has been one of the forces behind Sunshine Stars’ title-chase this season.

Attacking midfielder: Adekunle Muritala (Kwara Utd)
In the opening three minutes of the game against Sharks, Muritala’s double strike effectively killed any challenge from the Blue Angels. Muritala tormented the defence of Sharks and now finds himself in the team of the week.

Left striker: Ibrahim ‎Ajani (Sunshine Stars)
He is now the top scorer of the league with eight goals. Ajani promised to score his eighth goal of the season and did by netting Sunshine Stars’ third goal against Kano Pillars. The former Enyimba man got a mention in the team of the week for the second time.

Right striker: Chigozie Christopher (Ocean Boys)
Obviously he is the biggest performer of matchday 17. The teenager bagged a hat-trick against Zamfara United in their 3 – 1 win. Christopher played in a free role and excelled throughout 90 minutes.

Centre forward: Brendan Ogbu (Enugu Rangers)
Ogbu has been one of the players for the Flying Antelopes that has popped up with a number of goals. This time he got the winner against Crown FC last weekend in Ilaro last Sunday and squeezed his way into this week’s team.

Coach: Alphonsus Dike (Enugu Rangers)
For the first time this year, Dike is picked as coach of the week following Enugu Rangers’ win on the road at Crown FC.
