Nigeria pick squad for All Africa Games tie

Nigeria Under-23 team have picked a final squad of 25 players ahead of next month’s 2011 All Africa Games qualifier against Equatorial Guinea.#

“The head coach has already picked the 25 players for final phase of training before the game which we hope to win well,” assistant coach, Ben Iroha(pic), told MTNFootball.com.

The match against Equatorial Guinea has been confirmed for March 26 in Benin City.

In the meantime, the team’s head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has said that the players picked for this final training phase will no longer feature for their Nigeria Premier League clubs after this weekend.

The erstwhile Super Eagles handler revealed that the weekly release of the players to their clubs has slowed down in his plans to build a strong team.

Eguavoen disclosed: “Dolphin, Enyimba and Kano Pillars, who are the top teams in the Nigeria Premier League, did not release their players early enough for the screening exercise. But they all came at the beginning of last week and sought permission to play the weekend matches which I granted them.

“But after the weekend games that would be it. The clubs just have to make do with their other players because we have an important match against Equatorial Guinea.”

Eguavoen said the players have to work more on tactical discipline.

“Technically most of them are good individually with the ball and when it comes to tactical play they struggle. They need to know when to go into space, for instance. So, this is one area we need to work on seriously,” he told MTNFootball.com.
