Dolphins maintain top spot


Leaders, Dolphins FC, got their third road win of the season at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano as they beat home side, Zamfara United 1-0 on Sunday.

Derrick Amadi scored in the 53rd minute off a pass from Captain Ejindu in the box to give Dolphins the three points.

There was another road win last weekend as Crown FC beat Plateau United 2-1 on Plateau’s return to Jos.

Crown went two goals up early in the game with Gabriel Agu and Ibrahim Obayomi scoring in the 9th and 17th minutes of the first half before Plateau pulled one back but through George Akpabio could not find the cutting edge to level scores or win.

In Port Harcourt, Sharks could not relive memories of last season when they beat Kaduna United 5-0 as the encounter ended 2-1 in favour of the home side.

Stanley Okoronkwo got a brace in the 35th and 80th minutes of the game before Jude Aneke converted a penalty very late in the game to bring scores to 2-1.

Jude Aneke’s goal was his fifth this season.

At the Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, Gombe United huffed and puffed but could not beat high flying Warri Wolves.

Adamu Mahamed’s 60th minute goal was cancelled out by Gift Atulewa who equalised for Warri Wolves with just nine minutes left to play.

At Ijebu Ode, Sunshine stars continued to keep the pressure on Dolphins as they won 2-0 over lowly Ocean Boys, Festus Umanah and Ajani Ibrahim (pen) scoring in the 19th and 24th minutes.

Festus Unamah who is an Ocean Boys player, however scored at the wrong end of the pitch, an own goal.

Newly promoted Bukola Babes continued their fairy tale run beating Lobi Stars 3-1 and pushing up to 3rd on the log.

Fade Adebayo, Aziz Shobowale and Abdulrahman Bashir got the goals for the Babes while Moses Orkuma pulled one back for Lobi Stars.

Fans of Rangers International had something to sing about as they managed a 1-0 win over Kwara United, the lone goal coming off the feet of Brendan Ogbu in the 37th minute.

In Abeokuta, Shooting Stars pushed JUTH further down the relegation dungeons winning 3-0 in the last game played on Sunday.
Taofeek Adepoju and Olamide Adigun who got a brace were the scorers on the night.

Dolphins remain at the top of the log with 33 points from 15 matches, Sunshine are in 2nd place with 29 points while Bukola Babes lie in 3rd having amassed 27 points.

The bottom three are Crown FC (14 points), Plateau United (10 points) and JUTH FC (9 points)
