No end in sight for Nigeria's League troubles

It seems the end is not yet in sight as the battle for the soul of the Nigerian Premier League continues.

A Federal high Court in Ikoyi, Lagos under Justice Nyako on Monday granted the prayers of Total Promotions, the consultants for telecommunications giants, MTN that were initially declared winner of the first round bid for the league sponsorship restraining the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the minister for sports from conducting another bid.

The judge in his ruling ordered all parties in the suit to maintain the status quo until the determination of the substantial suit and subsequently adjourned sitting on the matter until Feb, 9.

An emergency congress of the Nigeria Premier League on Thursday last week cancelled the title sponsorship deal won by MTN and ordered for fresh bid within two weeks.

The action of the congress prompted Total promotion that won the bid on behalf of MTN to head to court.

The Nigeria Premier League is in its 14th week and 20 clubs are playing with title sponsors.
