Eucharia explains open camping for Falcons

Super Falcons head coach, Eucharia Uche has explained her reasons for picking forty players for camping ahead of the Women World Cup later this year.

Chukwu told a private radio station in Port Harcourt that she saw it as a chance to give new players a chance to stake a claim for a World Cup place.

“You know there were some players who did not play at the Africa Women Championships last year due to certain reasons and this will be their chance to show me what they have,” Uche said.

“Also you must understand the fact that this is the best time to do this because most of the players are holidaying in Nigeria at the moment and two weeks with them will be enough to give me an idea of what they can do for the country.”

Eight goal keepers and thirty two outfield players have been invited to the camp which opens later this month.

All members of the Falcons team that won the African Women’s Championship (AWC) title in South Africa last year were invited.

Several foreign and home-based players who were not in South Africa were also called up.
