Ocean Boys mourn dead player

The camp of Nigeria Premier League side, Ocean boys is in mourning as their left full back; Emmanuel Ogoli slumped and died during a League match on Sunday in Yenagoa.

The incident occurred in the 39th minute of their League game at home to Niger Tornadoes but Ogoli was confirmed dead on the way to the hospital in an ambulance.

Media officer of Ocean Boys, Ehis Eddy told naijafootball247.com that the whole incident is still shocking to them.

“I appreciate your call and your concern but this whole thing is shocking and I can’t really speak now,” Ehis said

“He was a young, promising football who was heading to the top. This kind of thing has not happened at the club and it has affected both players and officials.

“My prayer is that God will grant us as well as his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” Ehis said.

He added that Ogoli was not ill before the game nor had he shown any signs of illness in recent time.

“He was not ill and he has been free of injury and illness for a long time now that is why it shocked us that he could just slump during the game and die a few minutes later,” the media officer told naijafootball247.com.

The game eventually ended 2-0 in favour of Ocean Boys.

Earlier in the season, Ogoli was hurt in a collision with Plateau United’s Obinna Nwokolo with the League just two weeks old then but it is not yet clear if that injury had anything to do with this.

He previously played for city neighbours, Bayelsa United.
