League gets impromptu break

The Nigeria Premier League will go on an impromptu Christmas break on the 25th and 26th of December, 2010.

This break was clearly not part of the plan for the League this season as fixture had been done and redone at least three times so far and in all of them had games scheduled for festive season.

But in an about turn on Wednesday afternoon, the acting Executive secretary of the NPL, Tunji Babalola announced that all week 8 matches of the League have been moved to allow for the yuletide celebration.

According to Babalola, “all week 8 matches earlier scheduled for 25th and 26th December, 2010 shall now be played on Wednesday 5th January, 2011 respectively.”

The postponed matches are 3SC Vs Sharks FC,

Bukola Babes FC Vs Gombe Utd FC,

Dolphin FC Vs Kwara Utd FC,

JUTH FC Vs Heartland FC,

Kano Pillars FC Vs Plateau Utd FC, all initially scheduled for December 25 but will now be played on January 5, 2011.

Other rescheduled games are Lobi Stars FC Vs Crown FC, Enyimba Int’l FC Vs Rangers Int’l FC,

Zamfara Utd FC Vs Niger Tornadoes FC,

Sunshine Stars FC Vs Warri Wolves FC and

Ocean Boys FC Vs Kaduna Utd FC that should have been played on December 26, but will now hold on January 5, 2011.

Last season, it was a similar development as the chairman of the NPL at the time, Oyuiki Obaseki first insisted there would be no festive season breaks but introduced the Sallah break in November and then the Christmas break in December.
