Ikhana: “Why I believe in youngsters”

Kadiri Ikhana

Kwara United’s head coach, Kadiri Ikhana has revealed why he will continue to use youngsters to prosecute games for his side rather than the more established players.

Ikhana has blooded a couple of youngsters and kept faith with them since the season started and he says that has always been his style.
“I love young players and I insist on giving them a chance to show what they can do. If you remember when I was at Enyimba in 2003, the year we won the CAF champions League I gave Nigerians some new players,” Ikhana told naijafootball247.com.

“Muri Ogunbuyi, Joetex Frimpong and Ogbonaya Okemiri were all very young and unknown players when I used them in the Champions League in 2003. And in fact Muri and Okemiri had never played in the Nigerian Premier League before then so I have always used young players and will not stop any time soon,” Ikhana said.

For the Kwara United squad this season, the most outstanding has been Anthony Okemiri, the youngest of the Okemiri brothers who played for Dolphins until 2009.

Other Okemiri brothers are Ogbonaya, the eldest of the lot and Anthony.
