Heartland grabs Enyimba’s media chief

Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu

Longest serving club Media Officer in Nigeria, Tonex Chukwu finally left Enyimba a fortnight ago to pitch tent with Heartland.

Chukwu had served with Enyimba since 2001 and it came as a surprise that he had quit to bitter rivals, Heartland, who are actually, his home town club.

The rumour mills had it that Chukwu quit because Enyimba were broke and could no longer meet the financial requirements of running a professional football club and thus had to move on to higher and more stable ground.

However, Chukwu told naijafootball247.com that he had no quarrel with Enyimba before he left.

“It is a club I served with my heart and might and there was no issue that could have caused me to leave the club angrily so ignore what you have read,” Tonex Chukwu said.

“For a long time I have had offers from others clubs but refused to leave and I decided now that it was time to move on.

“I sat with the chairman (Felix Anyansi Agwu) and we talked over it. We are still friends and I will have my heart with Enyimba for a very long time to come.”

On the issue of the club being broke, Chukwu said he was not privy to the finances of the club.

“We all know however that things are not the way they used to be and we can’t continue to live in uncertainty. Heartland offered me a platform and I moved on,” Tonex Chukwu told naijafootball247.com.

Tonex Chukwu is now the Head of Protocol at Heartland FC.

Naijafootball247.com also spoke with Enyimba’s chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu and though he spoke openly based on personal recognition, he pleaded that his conversation with us should not be taken as a reaction to the issues and we have to respect his choice.
