Five of the best for Falcons

Nigeria’s Super Falcons romped five goals passed a hapless Mali team as the five time Africa Women Championships winners got the 2010 competition to a perfect start

Three first half goals by Pepertua Nkwocha in the 15th, 16th and 42nd minute ensured it was all over for the Malians.

With 20 minutes left to play, another veteran in the team, Stella Mbachu grabbed a goal while 17 year old substitute, Ordega made it the perfect 5 for Nigeria.

Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche was full of praises for Nkwocha after the game.

“First I want to say I am very happy we started well. It is always important you start a championship like this with a win and we have done just that,” Uche said.

On the goal scoring feat of Pepertua Nkwocha, Uche said she was not the least bit surprised.

“You all know Pepertua is used to scoring goals like this so I will be surprised if her three goals shocked you all.

“She has always been marvellous at the Africa Women Championships. Don’t forget that she has won the top scorer award and Most Valuable Player a lot of times so I am not surprised at all,” Uche said.

With this win, the Falcons are now top of group A on goals difference over South Africa who beat Tanziania 2-1 on Sunday.
