Stephen Keshi and Siasia make shortlist for Eagles job

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF may announce a new head coach for the country’s national as early as next week.

After a full board meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, the NFF decided to go for the only two coaches who actually applied for the job, Stephen Keshi, who still holds the enviable reputation of the longest serving national team captain in Nigeria’s history and Samson Siasia who played at the World Cup in 1994.

According to the newly appointed Head of the NFF’s Technical Department, Christopher Green, both men will be interviewed on November 4, 2010, two days after the Technical Committee is inaugurated.

“We decided to go for both of them since they applied for the job and as soon as they are interviewed we will not waste much time in announcing who the new Super Eagles coach will be,” Green said.

Samson Siasia played for Nigeria between 1987 and 1998 winning the Africa Cup of Nations gold and bronze medals in 1994 and 1992 as well as played at the World Cup in 1994.

As a coach he has led Nigeria’s U20 team to a silver medal at the World Youth Championships in 2005 and also silver medal at the Olympic Games in 2008.

He is also currently head coach of Heartland, a Nigerian Premier League side.

Stephen Keshi played for Nigeria between 1981 and 1994 and captained the Eagles for 12 years. As a coach he led qualified tiny West African country Togo for the World Cup in 2002 and coached Mali at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Technical Committee who will interview the coaches will be inaugurated on November 2, 2010 and comprises of Christopher Green (Chairman), Felix Anyansi Agwu (vice-chairman), Christian Chukwu, Paul Bassey, Adegboye Onigbinde, Garba Lawal, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Okocha, Deji Tinubu as members while Emmanuel Ikpeba is secretary.
