FIFA to recall Nigeria

Aminu Maigari
Just two days after the world football governing body, FIFA placed a suspension order on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF there are signs in the air that the country will soon be readmitted into the body.

FIFA cited government interference and specifically mentioned that a duly elected board of the NFF board was annulled and are in court, the removal of Musa Amadu by the sports ministry, the decision of the minister, Isa Bio to stop relegation from the Premier League and the fact that the Federation cannot work without government interference.

However, NFF’s media officer, Robinson Okosun told naijafootball247 on Wednesday night that they have fulfilled almost all of FIFA’s conditions to be readmitted and are hopeful Nigeria will be called back by weekend.

“You are aware that Harrison Jalla has withdrawn the court case and we are indeed happy about it. At least he considered Nigerian football and youth who would have suffered by his actions,” Okosun said.

"With this the NFF board led by Aminu Maigari has been reinstated.

“Then you must have heard that Musa Amadu is back on his seat as General Secretary of the Association. In fact Ikpeme handed over to him today so that is another condition fulfilled.

“We are now waiting for the congress of the Nigeria Premier League to meet on Thursday where we hope they would decide to revert to status quo and follow the statutes as regards relegation of clubs and after that I believe we can open correspondence with FIFA for us to be readmitted,” Okosun enthused.

Nigeria have a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea on Sunday and failure to play the match may mean missing out of the next Africa Cup of Nations.

"We believe we will be recalled in time to play the match that is why we have not stopped our preparations for the game," Okosun said.
