After a meeting between the Premier League and the Nigeria Football Association, the 2010/11 Nigerian League season will now kick off on October 2.

The season was initially supposed to start on September 25 but the date was not approved by the Football Association because of a pending protest by Bayelsa United who were relegated but wanted a league game replayed.

There was also the case of the former chairman of Bayelsa United, Victor Baribote Rumson who protested the elections that got Davidson Owumi in as NPL chairman.

However, with the NFA elections annulled, the sports ministry directed the senior staff of the FA to agree a date with the Premier League and get the season started.

The start match of the league will no doubt be the encounter in Kaduna between last season’s FA Cup champions, Kaduna United and league runners up, Kano Pillars.
